PinkBlush Swing Dress

IMG_0354We took a break from decorating the nursery (formerly Scott’s gym) and grabbed a bite to eat on a patio so we could enjoy the lovely weather we’ve been having.

So far, in the nursery we have a crib and a dresser filled with a few cute onesies and things I just couldn’t resist picking up for our little guy.  This past weekend, with some much-needed help from my dad, we focused on giving the space a new coat of paint, installing a new ceiling fan and hanging up some curtains.  I’m so excited to start pulling the baby’s room together and will share more with you in the future.

We had a nice relaxing weekend and headed to brunch in uptown on Sunday.  Brunch is seriously one of my favorite things to do, it’s such a fun social activity and I love trying out new restaurants!  I’ve seriously been craving lemon ricotta pancakes ever since I saw a sign for them outside of a restaurant during our recent trip to NYC.  So I tracked some down at Humboldt thanks to Yelp .

The sun was shining in Denver this weekend and it really was such a beautiful couple of days.  On Sunday, Scott and I had our own little date day which was so nice to just have a laid back day to ourselves.  We took the dog to the park, had lunch on a patio (followed by a stop at Dairy Queen… I mean come on, 70 degrees in April calls for a DQ Blizzard), played cornhole in our yard just the two of us (to really take advantage of the warm weather), made dinner and watched a movie.  It was a perfect day!  And now that we have a little one on the way, I’m really trying to cherish the one-on-one time with my husband.

We celebrated Easter with lunch and High Tea at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa.  This was my first time experiencing High Tea and I absolutely loved every minute of it.  High Tea is held in the lobby of the hotel and includes a vast selection of exotic teas accompanied by delicious mini desserts, scones, tea sandwiches and live music.  And if you’re not abstaining from champagne like I currently am, you can add in bubbly!  We really didn’t need to eat lunch before since there was so much food served, but since we were all tea-time beginners and didn’t know any better we ate beforehand.  The Brown Palace is one of my go-to’s for special occasions, like the Champagne Cascade to kick off the holiday season as seen in this post.

I’ve been experimenting with how to dress my growing baby bump and found the perfect Easter outfit as seen in this Instagram post.

Baby K Announcement

I’ve put the bubbles on hiatus, and for good reason… since I’m expecting!

Our little bundle of joy is due in early August, and Scott and I are over the moon that we are going to be parents.

I found out that I was pregnant on Thanksgiving, which is very fitting for the holiday as we are extremely grateful.  We surprised our families with the news on Christmas and have been slowly sharing with friends and co-workers over the past few months.. and even made it Facebook official on Super Bowl Sunday with the photo above!  We kept our news private for a while which was really special, but now that  I’m showing a little and past the midway point I thought it was time to share with you all.

I’m now 21 weeks and I can’t believe we’re over half way there!  I can’t wait to share more of my journey through pregnancy and motherhood!

A Weekend in NYC

NYC (8)This past weekend, Scott and I spent a long weekend in New York City.  We’re lucky enough to have friends who live in the city and they always show us a good time, taking us to historical bars, hip restaurants and recommending fun tourist activities a little off the beaten path.  For those without friends in NYC, here’s my long-weekend guide to New York City.

Things I’ve Learned From My Grandmother

Grammy

Poppies Close Up

In celebration of my Grammy’s birthday tomorrow, and since I can’t be with her in Tucson to celebrate I’m writing a post including some of the wisdom she’s quietly bestowed over the years.

Let me first just put this out there, my grandmother is one of my very favorite people and I simply adore her.  She is 80-something years old (according to her, a lady never reveals her exact age) and claims to be born on a Leap Day which would make her a quarter of her true age.  She lives in the house my grandfather built during the summers and “snowbirds” in Arizona during the colder months.  Grammy remains very stylish, drives a convertible, enjoys being the hostess at a local pizza parlor when in Denver and loves a good margarita.  I’ve been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with my grandmother and have picked up on a few things along the way:

  • Dress up for any occasion.  Backyard barbeques are no excuse to look underdressed.
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream can be enjoyed year-round, and must be refrigerated.  Yes, refrigeration was in question at one point and my dear husband had to ingest some curdled Bailey’s to appease Grammy.  Yuck!
  • Put cream on your neck and always, always rub it upwards.  This I’ve been told time and time again prevents wrinkles.
  • Make more food than your guests can possibly eat, and then send the leftovers home with them as parting gifts.
  • Scrub your elbows.  There is no excuse for an ashy elbow.
  • Homemade popcorn and an old movie is the perfect way to spend a night.
  • Learn how to make at least one good pie for special occasions.  (Lemon meringue is one of Grammy’s specialties and it’s heavenly.)
  • Spend time outdoors walking or simply sitting on your back porch soaking up the beauty of nature.
  • If you don’t love your first name, go by your middle.
  • In writing this post, I’ve made a note to self:  Take more pictures with your grandmother so you can cherish them forever.

Happy Birthday Grammy.  I love you and can’t wait for you to come back to Colorado!

Here’s to all of the strong, wise women in the world from who we can learn a thing or two.  May we know them.  May we raise them.  May we be them.

Chicago 1

I’m finally getting around to posting about our trip to Chicago over New Year’s Eve.  I don’t know where January has gone, but life seems to be moving incredibly fast these days.  January was a terrific month filled with lots of time spent with friends, naps, Netflix and relaxation, and the Broncos kicking butt all the way to the Super Bowl!!!!  Woot!  Woot!
