I recently picked up THE prettiest top on sale at J.Crew.  I live for summer and love to pair pretty tops with distressed denim jean shorts.  It’s my go-to combination for easy, chic outfits.

The lavender eyelet top is just the cutest and it also comes in ivory and black.  Purple is probably the color that’s least present in my closet, but this pretty pale shade made me want to quickly change that!  It’s such a soft color and with the eyelet fabric and peplum silhouette it’s really just a dreamy top.  I love how the layered, scalloped hem adds some volume too.

The tie-shoulder detail also adds another feminine element especially when the ribbons are tied in a bow.  And an added plus, is that the straps are easily adjustable so you can find the perfect fit.  There are a lot of tie-shoulder tops available right now.  I also really love this striped linen top, this embellished chambray tank, and this blue polka dot shirt.

Eyelet is a summer staple and I’ve been eyeing this white collared tank, this ruffled short-sleeve dress, and this stunning midi dress.  Eyelet is eternally chic and will stay current through the years.  So it’s definitely worth the investment since it’s a style that will last.

And my trick to wear even your girliest, frilliest tops day to day is to pair them with distressed denim.  I have been living in these light wash cutoffs all summer.  But to keep from literally wearing the same pair of shorts or jeans, I mix up my denim with varying cuts and colors including white!

We recently moved and we’re finally really getting settled into our new home.  I don’t care how excited you are about a new place to live, moving is a pain in the butt!  We closed on our house about a month ago and I just unpacked the last box (well all of the boxes aside from the not-so-frequently used items in the basement) and have actually started to decorate.  Decorating is something I’ve been so excited about but I’m trying not to go too crazy since we want to do some remodeling.  So for now one of the best parts about our new home is the yard!  I grew up with a large back yard and to me it’s so important to have space for the babies (and fur babies) to run around.  We spend a lot of time outdoors and I’m so happy to have a place to relax outside… I truly feel like it’s our own little oasis in the city.  And I’m sure our black lab Charlie loves the new digs too.  We’ve even caught him “cooling off” in our little pond!
