Rome has a thing for monuments.  And boy are the beautiful!  We did a self-guided walking tour of Rome’s main attractions and loved getting lost in between.  The Eternal City is sprawling yet walkable, which makes it easy to pack a lot of sightseeing into a short period of time.

 

This white shirt is such a great basic.  It’s made of crepe which gives it a very luxurious appearance.  The perforated detail on the sleeves adds interest to the otherwise basic shirt.  Check out this very similar style in a grenadine color.

The monuments are magnificent and many, and may only be outnumbered by the number of vespas!

We took the saying “when in Rome do what the Romans do” to heart for lunch on our first day in Rome.  Scott found a local pasta joint that serves up two kinds of pasta each day at 1:00 pm.  The locals begin to line up outside of Pastifico at a quarter to noon.  The whole ordeal reminded us of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld.  You can take your pasta to go or if you eat inside you get free water and wine!  Either way lunch is just 4 euros!

Other great places to wine and dine in Roma:

• Eat at Dilla for modern, upscale dining near the Spanish Steps.

• Stop by Mimi e Coco for drinks and a lively atmosphere near the Piazza Navona.  Try an Aperol Spritz, it’s an Italian classic.  Or be like me and stick to your favorite and drink prosecco!

•  Stop in the shabby chic etabli near the Piazza Navona for lunch, dinner or freshly baked sweet treats.

• Eat an al fresco dinner on red and white checkered tablecloths at Il Fico near the Piazza Navona.

•  Enjoy tiramisu and vino della casa rosso at Sedie & Cantine also near the Piazza Navona.

• If you’re looking to get away from the crowds, visit the Trastevere neighborhood.  There are loads of charming eateries and bars.

• Check out Pimm’s Good, a hip little taverna right in the middle of Trastevere.

• Trastevere’s Sette Oche in Altalena for antipasti on a quiet street in an otherwise hip and happening neighborhood.
